Notes From the Caretaker:

Dear Friends of Wilbur:
There are no lines on the earth separating one country from another or one people from another. Sometimes I wonder what the world would be like if there were no borders and people could go anywhere they liked for as long as they liked. On the microcosm the borders around our apartments, homes, and lots are also manmade. All borders and boundary lines are manmade, are they not? Borders are descendants of people staking claim to territory. This is mine and that is yours. Herein lies the genesis of the huge step from I/thou to we/they. From "we are all in this together" to "every man for himself." In a world following the dictum of "every man for himself" there are always winners and losers ... haves and have nots. This is a world of dominance over rather than cooperation with.
At Wilbur Hot Springs we are all in it together. We believe in equal dignity for every person. We understand that what each of us does has the potential to affect everyone. The waters are the great equalizer, for when we sit in them, unadorned, our similarities are more obvious than our differences.
In the world at large we trade liberty for increased safety. Wilbur is so safe that we need not give up many liberties. At Wilbur we can each be our true selves.
To be our true selves is to achieve the greatest relaxation, for in this deeply relaxed state we do not put up walls of defense. We are not guarded. When deeply relaxed and not guarded our mind/body can focus the most energy on healing.
I look forward to our true selves relaxing and saying hello at Wilbur.
