| Angela Karegeannes will be our featured chef for the month of February.
|
 |
Angela began her career as a chef at the Esalen Institute, cooking directly from their farm and garden. During her time there, she learned that produce grown in good soil, prepared with a deep understanding of its nutritional benefits and eaten near its source can change people's quality of life dramatically. |
Angela is the head chef and owner of A Fork Full of Earth Organic Catering, a San Rafael-based business whose staff are passionate about the importance of eating wholesome foods that are sustainably produced and mindfully cultivated. Forkfull prides itself on creating events that are elegant and approachable. The offerings that result are delicious, memorable and always sourced locally.
Using a service called Educatering, Angela also consults for organizations and schools who are looking to transition to "farm to table" style offerings within their programs and events.
In addition to creating nourishing "wine country rustic" menus for catering events, Angela is an enthusiastic advocate for the sustainable agriculture movement. She spends time as a chef at the Occidental Arts and Ecology Center, as an intern at the WorldLink Foundation and is on staff at the Ecological Farming Association where she co-produces the annual Eco-Farm Conference.
At the heart of everything she does is her intention to bring people closer to their bodies and to connect deeply with the natural world, by way of the food on the table. |

THRIVAL LIVING JOYSHOPS

Cultivating Bliss - March 5-7
This retreat offers support, guidance, influence and teaching of skills that will allow you to step into the true nature of who you are: a lovable and powerful being in this physical experience called life, seeking joy and wanting to be free to choose your life experience every step of the way. Tools and techniques will be offered to provide support when life conditions may show up in ways that feel difficult and interrupt our ability to create bliss. (Joyshop fee $125.)
Couples Thrival Joyshop - April 16-18
This JoyShop combines tools and techniques to support couples in learning more about themselves and each other in a collaborative and loving environment. There will be opportunities for experiential process--thereby providing immediate practice of new ways of thinking and behaving--blended with laughter, openness and the normalization of each couple's experiences with those of other couples. Much of the work is based on the new book The Couples Thrival Guide, which will be available for the workshop. (Joyshop fee $200 per couple.)
Instructor and facilitator Shannon Sheridan is a licensed Marriage, Family Counselor and works with a broad spectrum of issues, including addiction/alcoholism and recovery; couples' and women's issues; anxiety and depression; and anger as a tool. Shannon also provides an assortment of services for organizations related to team building, communication and conflict support, and offers classes and trainings in Authentic Therapy, Thrival Living and Couples work. Complementary Alternative Medicine

"How appropriate that, at the dawn of the twenty-first century, we consider the significant contribution massage has made to the health and well-being of humanity throughout the ages. Soft-tissue manipulation is no doubt one of the oldest forms of therapy, practiced for its health benefits and fulfilling the essential human need for contact with others." -- Patricia J. Benjamin, Ph.D
Wilbur is expanding its massage program to include a new treatment: Rejuvanessence®. Rejuvanessence is a holistic technique and is sometimes known as the "Angel's Touch." It employs precise and gentle massage to release tension in the ninety-one muscles of the face, neck, scalp and shoulders. The technique works gently in harmony with the body to soothe away the ravages of time, thus releasing tightened muscles and working on the connective tissue to make it more elastic and flexible. It releases blocked energy through work on the acupuncture points and meridians, thereby detoxifying and balancing the body. The technique is completely natural and relaxing, creating a healthier, happier and younger appearance.

Notes From the Caretaker:

Dear Friends of Wilbur:
How do we know if our feelings are normal and therefore to be expected as part of life, or abnormal and to be modified by some means and in some manner in order to make life more graceful/enjoyable? Is normal simply the average? Is normal what a group of "experts" sitting in a room proclaim is normal? Is normal simply what we each do and is therefore normal for us?
These are not the only things I think about when I walk the trails at Wilbur Hot Springs. Sometimes I just enjoy the colors of the hundreds of shades of green in the hills or the beauty of the Fountain of Life geyser. Other times I sit in the healing waters and visualize the lithium* in Wilbur's water entering my skin and transforming my neural circuitry into a place of superlative serenity. Thinking these thoughts while sitting in Wilbur's waters is the kind of multitasking I love.
I am reminded of the Woody Allen quote "Some people sit and think about the universe while I can hardly find my way around Chinatown."
Wishing you excellent health,
Richard

*Lithium pharmacology refers to use of the lithium ion, Li+, medically as a mood-stabilizing drug. Johan Schioldann's latest work, History of the Introduction of Lithium into Medicine and Psychiatry, will coincide with the 60-year anniversary of John Cade's discovery of the application of lithium in therapy.
