March 25-27
Marion Cascio will be our featured chef for the month of March. |

Tai Chi Ch'uan Workshop
with kenn chase

March 20-25
June 12-17
|
 |
This workshop will be an intensive exploration of Yang style Tai Chi Ch'uan, which is the ancient Chinese art of movement meditation. Tai Chi is composed of 54 flowing, graceful, and peaceful postures. It is over 1000 years old, and has been practiced for centuries in China as the art of longevity. Studies have shown that Tai Chi improves circulation, respiration, promotes balance and flexibility, and enhances the body's immune system. |
Our first 5-day seminar will consist of learning the first set of Tai Chi (20 postures) with hours of practice and refinement. We will also introduce Feldenkrais floor exercises and Chi Kung (breathing techniques). Feldenkrais is a neuro muscular re-eduation method, which helps the practitioner to release old habit patterns of holding tension in the muscular skeletal system. Through continued practice, students can relieve pain and dysfunction in all movements. Entering the Tai Chi sequence has often been likened to moving in a gentle river with effortless flow and peaceful calm.

Seminar prices are per participant and include five days of meals, Wilbur accommodations and instructor fees:
- Camping: $675
- Bunk Room: $ 805
- Shared Room: $870
- Private Room: $ 998
Kenn Chase is an accomplished Yang style Tai Chi Ch'uan teacher, with over 40 years of experience. He first studied with Master Choy Kam Man of Hong Kong, China. In 1969 Kenn introduced Tai Chi to Esalen Institute, Big Sur where he was the first teacher of Yang style meditation form. He is one of only five Tai Chi teachers in the country who is also a certified Feldenkrais teacher. Living and teaching in London and Amsterdam, he studied with several Tai Chi masters, as well as mind/body pioneers. He has developed an integral Tai Chi practice, utilizing Feldenkrais (Awareness Through Movement), Chi Kung energy cultivation techniques, and sensory re-education methods. |

It is suitable for all levels of experience and expertise. In our workshop, we begin with connecting exercises and build on this foundation, moving into assisted and partner poses. Complementary Alternative Medicine

Shalamah Yahchove, DC
Are you suffering from the lingering effects of the flu? Do you have that bothersome hacking cough, especially at night? A very simple solution upon retiring for the night: rub warmed castor oil over the chest and neck areas and then apply heat, such as a heating pad or hot-water bottle for 20-30 minutes. Another very sound solution is massage therapy; lymphatic massage is a wonderful remedy for unplugging the lymphatic system.
| It's time to bump up your immune system by using the age-old remedies of massage, chiropractic and soaking in Wilbur Hot Springs' natural mineral-laden waters. These remedies can help to stave off a cold, flu, pain and seasonal affective disorder (there's loads of lithium in our water). |
|
Remember to schedule your chiropractic and massage sessions when reserving your room.

Wilbur Hot Springs is proud to introduce Jeanette Colbert as one of our rotating massage providers. Jeanette has just returned from South Africa and has joined our team of professional massage therapists.
 |
Jeanette says, I use an intuitive, integrative approach to nourish and heal the body, mind, and spirit. Drawing on Swedish-Esalen, Deep Tissue, Shiatsu, and Reiki techniques, I blend what you need to facilitate your healing, rejuvenation, and relaxation. Pause and take the time for yourself now, and enjoy a healing, flowing, rejuvenating, and peaceful massage. |
Notes From the Caretaker

Dear Friends of Wilbur:
For over 100 years Wilbur Hot Springs has had the slogan "In all the world, no waters like these." Was this made up as a marketing gimmick, or are Wilbur's waters truly unique in their healing qualities?
Given what I have seen in 39 years as Wilbur's Caretaker, I think it is safe to say that those who have frequented a number of natural geothermal springs will agree that all it takes is one immersion in Wilbur's waters to experience their being significantly different from all the rest. The explanation is in the makeup of the water. The composition of Wilbur's natural mineral springs is unique.
In future e-lettters I will go into detail on the specific healing properties of the composition of the waters. Right now I am going to dunk myself. I am here for an entire week and I've promised myself not less than two full immersions each day. Did I mention that the waters do wonders for my actinic keratosis? They do, and the treatment is much more fun and much less expensive than going to my dermatologist.
See you at Wilbur. I am the tall guy in the big brown robe who welcomes friendly conversation and goes around singing, "In all the world, no waters like these."
