Sarana Miller Yoga Retreat

April 8-10

Please join us for a weekend of breathing, chanting, asana and soaking in the healing mineral waters of Wilbur. Come strengthen your practice while relaxing and rejuvenating your body and mind. We'll step back from our daily routines and retreat to this sacred land, home to healing waters that have been used for renewal for centuries.

Students will practice yoga on Wilbur's beautiful yoga deck, cradled in nature with the sounds of the breeze and the creek. We will begin each day with chanting and pranayama, followed by breakfast and then an active morning session. In the afternoon there will be time for bathing, hiking, massage and personal time. We will gather in the late afternoon for a restorative session followed by a delicious dinner.

Couples/Partners Yoga Retreat
with Rex Stromness and Michele Miller

april 15-17

Couples/partner yoga is a wonderful way to connect with your partner or spouse using traditional yoga poses, breathing exercises and massage. It is suitable for all levels of experience and expertise. In our workshop, we begin with connecting exercises and build on this foundation, moving into assisted and partner poses. Most couples find it a great way to practice yoga in a new way, connect deeply with the one you love, meet new people and have fun.

Notes From the Caretaker:

The Wilbur Experience

We live in a world constantly being portrayed to us as dangerous. Turn on the news at any time and we hear of natural or manmade disasters, of people getting sick or killed, of corruption in government. We are literally bombarded, on a daily basis, with messages of danger. In addition, we are working more, earning less and, due to the state of economy that has been perpetrated upon us, those with jobs are happy to have them.

In sum, we are being conditioned, brainwashed if you will, to live in a state of perpetual fear. Living in fear has serious psychophysical consequences. We seek external ways to immediately gratify ourselves, such as buying, drugging or eating. The results are disastrous. Fifteen percent, or about 49 million of us, live in poverty, 67 percent, or about 220 million, are overweight or obese. To heal, center and maintain ourselves, the place to look is within. But where is there a safe place for those who wish to make the inner journey?

Wilbur Hot Springs provides an atmosphere of safety and security like no other. Something positive happens to the emotional atmosphere as well as to our neural circuitry in a place that is extremely safe. In a critical mass of safety we heal and thrive.

The therapeutic milieu of Wilbur begins for some when they make their reservation, for they now have the experience to look forward to. For others the experience begins with the purchase of the food for their stay.

silver bridge

For me the Wilbur Experience begins when I get off Highway 20 and enter the hardpacked dirt of Bear Valley Road. I stop, close my eyes and take a few abdominal breaths. I tell myself "I am safe." Then I drive on. When I get to Wilbur's silver bridge I stop again and breathe and repeat "I am safe." When I get to the Wilbur entrance gate I close my eyes and breathe again and repeat "I am safe." I am entering a world where we dispose of shame or blame, though we hold one another accountable, and we collaborate and cooperate.

Upon arriving I get into the medicinal waters as soon as possible. I close my eyes and breathe. I again tell myself "I am safe" and, in fact, I am safe.

The Wilbur Experience is what happens to us when we immerse ourselves in an atmosphere designed to provide and enhance emotional safety, in a pristine setting, providing medicinal hot water, a safe place to sleep and a great place to cook and eat food. It works!
